Recently the Hershey Bears received a minor glimpse of what it is like to play under a rather large spotlight. The AHL Showcase was televised on a large platform, including Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic. But being televised on local cable sports network may seem like baby steps compared to what Stanislav Galiev accomplished last Friday.

On Wednesday, December 5, the Reading Royals defeated the Florida Everblades 4-2 at the Sovereign Center. Galiev, who played nine games for Hershey this season, scored an insurance goal at the 15:53 mark of the third period.

His goal turned out to make the ESPN SportsCenter’s infamous top 10 plays two days later. Galiev was soon to be bombarded with text messages from his family and friends Friday morning, as they saw a familiar face of national television. “It was a good morning”, exclaimed a laughing Galiev when he spoke to Reading’s play-by-play radio broadcaster, Mark Thompson. “I don’t get to use this move a lot, and I felt that moment was the right time to use it.”

The Reading Royals are currently 16-7-0-1 and have a commanding 11 point lead in the Atlantic Division over the Elmira Jackals.
